Mersea Island Vineyard Rewsalls Lane East Mersea Colchester Essex CO5 8SX
A Vineyard with a Story
The Vineyard was bought in 1997 by Roger and Jacqui Barber. Mersea Island Vineyard is rooted in the tradition of producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique character of our coastal terroir. Nestled on the shores of Mersea Island, our vineyard has grown to be a cornerstone of Essex winemaking. Each vine is tended with care, and every bottle represents the spirit of the island.
Tasting the Mersea Island Culture
Back then all that was on site was Muller Thurgau, Ortega and Rechsteiner vines, as well as an old barn. Today there is everything you see on the website, and additionally they have planted Solaris, Caberay, Noir and Rondo vines.
Mersea Island’s cool coastal climate and fertile soil provide the perfect conditions for growing grapes that are full of character. The sea breeze, sandy soils, and natural biodiversity all contribute to wines that are crisp, vibrant, and distinctly reflective of our island’s terroir.

Wow 😍 we've just had our wedding reception at the vineyard's barn this week, and it really was the perfect day, it was all we wanted and imagined plus more!! I really cannot recommend and praise Mark and the team here enough, we went for the BBQ menu and all of the food was just amazing, and there was plenty for our guests to have seconds too, much to everyone's delight! The service (and all of the team) was perfect, and the day just went so smoothly and was so chilled out, and of course the wine is absolutely brilliant! The barn venue itself was also just so so lovely and looked amazing, and being able to spill out into the outside area was perfect for a lovely sunny day. Mark really did make all of the planning so easy, and was so flexible with everything to ensure that we had the most perfect day, exactly the way we wanted it, and we really did have that! I honestly cannot recommend and praise the team and the vineyard highly enough, it really is just perfect, and all of our guests agreed!! Thank you to Mark and all of the team for an amazing day that we will remember and cherish forever! Joe Chilton2023-08-11Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
